Born the son of an hotelier and known to his mother on formal occasions as Charles, Charlie Chux spent his early days playing the slot machines, surrounded by sailors and sea shanties (seriously). Not to be content with this lifestyle and as he developed his musical tastes and his hat collection, yet another hair brain idea ensued and instead of spending his hard earned dollars on something mildly sensible he figured that copious amounts of vinyl was a good idea. It was completely unimportant in the scheme of things but entirely necessary. He was soon to be known as CHUX.
The quick maturation of his musical skill was owed to his inception of Disco Punx where three snappy wits were better than one as their original spelling of the word ‘Punks’ as ‘Punx’ stood them in good stead. Along with Luke Yeah and Hentai, CHUX became a party man about town, with several festival appearances in the mix as well as smashing their own acclaimed ‘Disco Punx’ club party where they played host to a cohort of big-hitter Australian talent.
CHUX has moved onward and upward. The right hand man at Heaps Decent, a music charity which nurtures and develops the creativity of underprivileged and Indigenous young people alongside founders and pals Levins and Nina Las Vegas, he has maintained a steady rise and rise.
He presently holds down residencies at the gigantically successful Lost parties, Hugo’s Lounge and The World Bar; not forgetting his very own United Colours party, alongside Sydney music aficionados Kato, Wax Motif and Bad Ezzy. Touting a foray into the musical world of interracial house music, it is a party that has played host to a healthy string of international acts on the tropical/tech house tip. With a music style embracing more diversity than a zoo, Charlie Chux delves into a sonic underworld. This diversity is apparent in every DJ set, mixtape or car trip with Charlie Chux. From disco to techno to house to electronica and always with some fruity numbers thrown in, CHUX is all about making girls dance.
