Please welcome MayaVanya - sister duo from Croatia, who have spent half of their life based in New Zealand getting involved with music and spinning records.
MayaVanya grew up listening to a global palette of music spanning Gypsy Kings and Ladysmith Black Mambazo to The Beatles and Talking Heads, to DJ Kool Herc, Grandmaster Flash and Bambaataa.
With opposing music tastes between them, Maya Vanya produce cross-cultural sets beaming versatility, with their styles ranging from upfront House, Tech-house, and Tropical beats mixed with Dub and Big Basslines. But their sound is unique and ever evolving!
Recent winners of the prestigious global DJ competition, NGDJ, initiated by some of the biggest players in the industry: Beatport, Pioneer, DJ Mag and judged by the likes of the head of music download site Beatport, editor of DJ Mag, Marketing manager of Pioneer DJ, Ultra Record's David Waxman, Deadmau5's manager Dean Wilson and DJ/Producer Sebastian Ingrosso unleashed a worldwide interest in MayaVanya. Doors flew open with opportunity with the girls performing at Miami Winter Music Conference alongside acts such as M.A.N.D.Y, Sharam, Macy Gray, Swedish House Mafia, Pete Tong, Afrojack, Chris Lake & Diplo and successfully finished a year of touring - playing in the UK, Europe, North America, Canada and Hong Kong; including events such as Creamfields UK and Cream at Amnesia Ibiza, Avalon in Hollywood LA & Steve Aoki's Dim Mak at Cinespace, Volar HK.
Back home in New Zealand Maya and Vanya are regulars at Rhythm N' Vines, Homegrown, Summadayze, DeepHardNFunky, Air NZ Fashion Week & Ministry of Sound while holding residency and booking international acts for at New Zealand;s best club Cassette9.
For the past 2 years they've successfully created and managed Auckland's stand-out art and music night, "The Thursday Night Tea Party" and collaborated with Nick Dwyer to showcase exotic tunes to the music masses with the club night, "Akwaaba".
